Chattanooga’s Chickamauga Chapter NSDAR officers and members commemorated two of the DAR’s annual events. The National Society observes a National Day of Prayer each year on Oct. 11 in recognition of the Society’s founding on that date in 1890. Chickamauga Chapter members gathered for this event at the grave of their Founding Regent, Mrs. Amelia Morrow Chamberlain who helped organize the Chapter on Oct. 7, 1894. Flowers were placed and a special time of remembrance and prayer was led by Chapter Chaplain Mrs. Norma Hansen. Members also recognized the Chapter’s 53rd Regent and past Chaplain, Mrs. Norma Gordon Viall Scales by placing flowers.
NSDAR members celebrate the organization’s founding each year-round through acts of service in their communities, especially during the month of October. Chickamauga Chapter members collectively wrote 715 cards to send to currently deployed military service members through the non-profit organization Friends of the Troops which was founded by a Chickamauga Chapter member, Jessica Duke.
Chapter members also jointly collected and delivered coffee station and hospitality supplies for the Chattanooga VA Clinic which they continue to support through the DAR Service for Veterans Committee.
